Dogs are at Risk Too!

As the flu season approaches, the concern isn't just for humans, but man's best friend is also at risk.  Animal shelter officials and dog experts are warning owners to keep their dogs away from doggie day care facilities to keep them from getting the canine flu.

The canine flu is less common, but is just as harmful to dogs as it is to humans.  Most recently a shelter in Fairfax County, VA reported a canine flu related death.  The canine flu has also infected dozens of other dogs within the same shelter -- as of right now the shelter is holding off all adoptions so they can contain the virus.

The first case of the Canine Influenza virus was in the United States in 2004 -- it was detected in racing Greyhounds in Florida.  Since then it has only continued to spread to dogs all across America.
