Deadly in Heart Patients

Patients who suffer from cardiac distress or other cardiac ailments should be aware that they are just as susceptible if not more to contracting the H1N1 virus this fall.  Their weakened heart contributes to their weakened immune systems, which means it will be particularly difficult for them to overcome the flu this season.

Doctors across the world are asking that patients with pre-existing health conditions be the first to receive the flu shot this season, the earlier they are exposed to the vaccine, the better chance they will have at beating the flu this season.  The H1N1 virus is particularly troublesome to those with heart conditions, because they can lead to death in these patients.  Also, regardless of the pre-existing notion that the elderly are probably not as susceptible is false, patients with heart conditions regardless of age should receive the flu vaccine this season.
