Antiviral Stockpiling
The United States Department of Health and Human Services are well aware of the impending pandemic due to the new strain of the swine flu. Secretary Mike Levitt just released information concerning the United States most recent purchase of an overabundance of antiviral drugs.
With the additional purchases, the Strategic National Stockpile of antiviral drugs will total 26 million doses of antiviral treatments. This stockpile is only to be used in the dire event of a national influenza pandemic.
Sure, the federal government can organize and keep such doses of the antiviral drugs, but it is up to state and local governments to handle the implementation and distribution of these drugs. The Department of Health and Human Services are responsible for distributing them among states based on population.
