Britain Starts Their Flu Vaccine Trials
Chief Medical Officer Liam Donaldson claims that Britain's swine flu vaccine program will start in October. The first to receive the vaccine will be the elderly and young children. The country's largest supply of vaccines is coming from GlaxoSmithKline.
The first shipment will have upwards of 300,000 vaccines with an expect 54.6 million more coming in December. But that number depends largely on how much can actually be manufactured.
Before the vaccine begins, Donaldson says the treatments need to be approved by the European medical regulators. Donaldson feels as though they will get the nod of approval by October.
So far, the majority of the cases have proven to be mild -- but health experts expect there to be a pick up of more severe cases later in the year.
