How to Communicate to the Public
"How should the public be contacted?"
If an Influenza Pandemic were to infect the world, what would be the best means of communicating the dangers to the public?
There was huge wave of Internet postings about the H1N1 virus when United States officials declared a public health emergency. 46 out of 50 state health departments posted information about the outbreak within 24, but many people were unsatisfied about the inconsistency between states. Performance among states varied widely, and the it was somewhat of test about how well their performance will reflect the efficiency of state and local health departments during an actual emergency.
Since 2001, local and state government public health departments have spent millions of dollars trying to prepare in an even that there were to be a pandemic, but apparently not a lot of that money went into a sufficient means of communicating to the public.
