State Requires Health Officials to Be Vaccinated
The New York State Health Department is requiring that all health workers in New York be vaccinated for the flu, in fear that the swine flu will return in the fall. This new regulation will affect hospitals, home health care agencies, and hospice care workers.
This mandate was approved without problem, in fact on Tuesday, August 17, the United Healthcare Workers East that this policy was completely unprecedented. This mandatory vaccination also presents a problem to healthcare workers if it goes against their religious or cultural beliefs to receive the vaccine.
The city responded saying that it was essential to the state's well being that all healthcare officials receive the vaccine before the onset of flu season.
